Planning a Wedding During COVID-19

As wedding venues shut their doors, strict social distancing guidelines are in place, and your wedding date is quickly approaching, it’s perfectly normal to feel an overwhelming amount of stress. The harsh reality is that your wedding plans are most likely going to be changing this year due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. If you are planning a wedding during COVID-19, keep in mind these tips from the experts at our South Florida country club.

Wedding Planning During Coronavirus Crisis

There is a lot that goes into planning your big day. From cake tastings, finding the perfect dress, and even the small details like the music list and party favors. Regardless of where your ceremony falls on the calendar this year, you might experience some wedding changes due to the coronavirus crisis.

There indeed are so many moving parts to planning a wedding during COVID-19. Regardless of the strict lockdowns, you can still successfully plan your wedding digitally. While COVID-19 has affected your wedding planning process, things should be looking up in the coming weeks. But for now, here are a few things you can do as you plan your wedding during the global COVID-19 pandemic.

1.      Make a Vision Board

One of the best things to do when planning a wedding during COVID-19 is to lay out all your ideas on a vision board. Either create a vision board through social media platforms like Pinterest or take the time and partake in arts and crafts. Gather images of flowers, cocktails, decorations, cakes, hair, makeup, venues, and more and lay them out in a visual vision board. Use your vision board to create the ideal plan you have for your big day.

2.      Virtual Dress Try-On

If you haven’t shopped for your dress yet, then it’s a good thing we live in a digital age. Grab your phone, tablet or computer, and get to online shopping. Many bridal shops and retailers have adapted to online shopping practices, so you should be able to search through a wide selection in the comfort of your home. You might even be able to have a video call with a stylist and do a virtual try-on. Check with the shops and see if they can send you a sample dress to try on and get a feel for what you like.

3.      Adjust Guest List

Due to strict stay-at-home orders as well as national and global lockdowns, your guests might have a hard time traveling to your wedding. Take the time to reconsider your guest list to ensure your loved ones can arrive safely on your special day. And for those who wouldn’t be able to make it, consider setting up a live stream so your guests can still take part in your wedding.

4.      DIY Decorations

While you are most likely bored in the house, use this as the perfect opportunity to create DIY decorations. Find inspiration from magazines and social media and see what you can create in the comfort of your home during the coronavirus crisis. Order supplies right to your door with a click of a button and get to crafting!

5.      Stay Positive

The most important thing to do when planning a wedding during COVID-19 is to stay positive. Keep calm, cool and collected as you go through this unimaginable pandemic. Meditate, take bubble baths, go for walks, and anything else that will keep your stress levels down. You can even follow positive social media accounts for daily affirmations. We promise you will have a beautiful wedding, even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

DIY Wedding Hair and Makeup Ideas During Coronavirus Pandemic

DIY Wedding Hair and Makeup Ideas During Coronavirus Pandemic

Hiring a professional hairstylist and makeup artist are very common for weddings. Unfortunately, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, you are most likely going to have to do your hair and makeup by yourself. Don’t panic! The wedding professionals at our South Florida country club are here to share DIY wedding hair and makeup trends.

Easy Wedding Hairstyles

These easy wedding hairstyles can be completed with just a few tools and minutes of your time.

1.      Soft Waves

For this look, simply take any size hair curler and section off your hair. Take small pieces of your hair and wrap it around the curler. Hold the hair wrapped around the curler for 7-12 seconds. Make sure you leave about an inch of the ends out to create the soft waves. You can either curl your entire head or just do a few sections for an effortless look. Once the curls have set for a few minutes, brush them out with your fingers, add a texturizing spray, and lock them in with hairspray.

2.      Sleek and Straight

Who says you can’t wear your hair straight for your wedding? The sleek, straight look is very in this year, and it’s effortless to accomplish during the COVID-19 pandemic. First and foremost, for this look, you have to wash your hair so it’s clean, soft, and manageable. Once it’s washed, either blowdry it or let it air dry and then apply a heat protection spray. Set the flat iron to the appropriate temperature for your hair type, apply the flat iron to small sections of hair, and pull down along the 1” – 2” strand. If it’s not completely smooth the first time, pull the flat iron through again. To tame your flyaways, you can use styling products to maximize the sleek wedding hairstyle.

3.      Add Accessories

The easiest way to spice up your wedding hair is by adding accessories. You can use beautiful headbands to tame your hair but also to add something special to your look. Choose a white, bedazzled headband for an elegant look. For a bohemian style, add flowers to your hair or even a floral crown. With the extra time on your hands due to the coronavirus crisis, create your own flower crown for your wedding hair.

Simple Makeup Looks

The best place to get inspiration for your wedding makeup is on YouTube. Follow the step by step tutorials from makeup gurus and complete your DIY wedding makeup during the COVID-19 pandemic.

1.      Barely There – Natural Look

The minimalist wedding makeup has been a massive trend for the 2020 season. Celebrities like Meghan Markle have chosen to go the natural route when it comes to their big day. Achieve the barely-there, natural look by feathering your brows, enhancing the flush in your cheeks, and adding a nude lip. You can also add a hint of sparkle to your eyes and cheekbones to enhance your natural features.

2.      Full Glam

Completing the full glam wedding makeup is going to take time and practice. Gather your desired makeup, and follow along to makeup gurus like Jaclyn Hill, Desi Perkins, NikkieTutorials and Alissa Ashley. Pack on the glitter, smoke out your lashes, contour your cheekbones, add a bold lip, and get ready to marry the love of your life.

Welcome Tay “Ty” Dubocq – the New Director of Catering At Deer Creek

Everyone at Deer Creek Golf Club is so happy to welcome our new Director of Catering, Tay Dybocq! Tay is an experienced wedding planner, catering manager, events coordinator, and all-round wonder woman. She has a knack for making dream weddings come true and creating memorable mid-week conferences and events.

Tay comes to us from the Palm Beach Marriot Resort & Spa. All said and done, Tay has over a decade of experience in South Florida events venue coordination and international sales.

We asked her to talk a little about herself and what get her into event planning. This is what she told us:

Q: What drew you to get into catering and event planning?

TD: Since I was a young girl, I have always enjoyed hosting and planning a party! I took upon myself the planning of family events, school dances and activities, neighborhood holiday parties, summer BBQs, and all other year-round gatherings; it was then when I decided that I wanted to focus my career in Catering and Event & Wedding Planning.

Q: What do you think is the most important ingredient/element of successful event planning?

TD: It’s all in the details! From the moment you start planning your event – from vision, structuring a planning timeline, meeting with all vendors, to tracking RSVPs and Vendor Payments, etc., it’s important to be organized and detailed to ensure a successful event.

Q: What’s your guilty pleasure desert?

TD: Oh my! You put me on the spot! Just kidding! I will never say no to crème brûlée, tiramisu, or affogato.

Q: What was your favorite unplanned moment in an event you have planned?

TD: Funny you ask me this… this was actually my own 30th Birthday. I had this entire vision in my mind of what I wanted my 30th Birthday to be! I had theme, menu planned, invitations ordered, cake designed, everything! Then my husband cancelled the party and told me “you are not going to plan your own birthday party.” So, I threw away all invitations and sadly (maybe even mad) I stopped planning the entire event. Long story short, it was the best surprise party EVER! I was not in control and I was completely surprised by my husband, friends, and family who delivered my vision in a way that I would’ve never imagined. It was a fun day!

Q: Do you love or hate Pinterest?

TD: I like it! I occasionally use it as a source of inspiration to get my creative mind going.

Q: What is one pitfall that amateur event planners fall into often?

TD: I would say understanding contracts/catering terms and event budgeting.

Q: What quick advice would you give a couple who is planning a wedding by themselves?

TD: Hire professionals! Industry professionals gain their reputation because they consistently offer outstanding services to their clients. A professional vendor will take great care of you and your guests, and will take a huge burden off your shoulders as a couple. Also, enjoy the process! It is a once in a lifetime event – the day you have been planning since you were young and it’s a reason for celebration. Everything you do in the planning process should be an enjoyable experience. Trust your professionals and let them guide you – sit back, make choices, and enjoy every moment!

We also asked Tay Dybocq if she has any words she’d like to say to our lovely readers:

TD: I hope that all of us here at Deer Creek Golf & Country Club have the opportunity to work with you in making sure your day is perfect and just like you imagined!

Guys Guide to Choosing an Engagement Ring & Getting a Size

Guys Guide to Choosing an Engagement Ring & Getting a Size

Guys Guide to Choosing an Engagement Ring & Getting a Size

Most men are at least a little nervous choosing an engagement ring, it’s only natural. Engagement rings are like tattoos, a bad one will haunt you forever and could ruin a relationship. With that in mind, we decided to provide some insight into buying an engagement ring. A short online course: Buying an Engagement Ring 101.

We are going to address the three most common questions men ask when shopping for an engagement ring.

  1. Should I go engagement ring shopping with my girlfriend?
  2. How can I guess my girlfriend’s ring size without asking her?
  3. How do I pick the right engagement ring style?

Engagement rings represent a commitment; it’s about thinking long-term. The best ring is one that she will love, will age well and won’t break the bank. Money is a key factor when choosing an engagement ring, but it shouldn’t be the only focus. After all, you are going to have to spend money on the bridal shower venue, and of course, the wedding venue.

Shopping for An Engagement Ring with Your Girlfriend

Best-Case Scenario – Browse with her, online or in person, but go out and pick it yourself. You still want to surprise her with your choice, and the style you picked. Put some time between when you shop and when you propose, at least 3 months.

Worst-Case Scenario – Ask the store’s return or exchange policy.

Do your best to maintain some element of surprise and choice because you want to give her a story to tell at the engagement party.

How to Guess Your Girlfriend’s Ring Size Without Asking Her

Oh boy, here we go. This is one of the most daunting tasks you have ahead of you, or at least it seems that way. There were probably guys back in the early 1900’s sweating this same problem of choosing an engagement ring, maybe even all the way back to the caveman days. “How find ring size without ask?” That’s exactly how they spoke too, trust us.

REMEMBER: It doesn’t have to be a perfect fit, she won’t mind getting it resized, just try get it close.

Here are 4 sneaky ways to get your girlfriends ring size without asking:

  1. Half a size smaller than your shoe sizes.

Find out her shoe size and subtract a half. So, if she is an 8, her ring size is a 7.5. Easy right? This is only an average, so this does not work for all women. But this should be your first option if you really want to surprise her.

  1. Go into Her Jewelry

Put on your detective hat and look at her jewelry box for other rings. Don’t take any rings if you can help it, instead place the ring on one of your fingers and make a note of how far it goes up your finger.

  1. Check Her Gloves

This works for our fellow men in the colder parts of the world. Check her glove size and use that as a reference.

  1. Deploy the Informants – Family & Friends

Ask family and friends to get that information for you. You want to entrust this to someone subtle and someone who won’t spill the beans. Only an option if you have a good informant.

Choosing an Engagement Ring Style

Ask any guy who has bought an engagement ring and they will probably tell you all about the Four Cs. It’s a term that has existed for years to help struggling gentlemen choose an engagement ring that will impress their lady.

These 4 factors are used to determine the grade of the diamond, used by jewelers every day. So, you know you can trust it. We have listed the 4 Cs in order of importance. Take a look at this diagram that explains the Four Cs of diamonds.

  • Cut

The cut of the diamond is directly responsible for the sparkle, and sparkle matters; sparkle is king, sparkle is what you’re looking for here. The cut refers to the angles and hard edges and how they line up to each other and to the rest of the diamond. It has nothing to do with size or shape. This is a great diagram to understand diamond cut.

  • Color

Traditionally, the less color the better. Most people try to buy diamonds that are as transparent as possible. But this is related to preference and not quality. Some diamonds have a “yellowish” color embedded within them. Yellow does not mean inherently less quality, but it might mean less “perceived quality” because most people think that clear diamonds are more beautiful. It’s completely up to you.

  • Carat

Carat is a middle English word from French that was used a unit of weight. It really isn’t a measure we use anymore except referring to the weight of an engagement ring diamond. The higher the carat the bigger the diamond. That is important to some but not to others.

  • Clarity

This refers to the tiny imperfections in the diamond. Though most are not even noticeable to the naked eye. This is the least important factor to consider when choosing an engagement ring.
