You Can Still Play Golf This Winter!
Winter can put a stop to many of the things that we enjoy: sun bathing, swimming, days at the beach…but it doesn’t have to put a stop to your golf game! Whether you are dealing with a chilly cold front here in South Florida or you are taking your golf game north, Deer Creek Golf Club has a few tips on how to stay warm on the green. So don’t worry, you can still play golf this winter!
Keeping warm is the first step to a successful round during winter. Most of our body heat escapes through our head and hands, so keep those covered! Invest in a warm ski cap and a good pair of gloves. You probably are not going to be able to wear your gloves when you play, so a good tip is to bring along some heating pads and stuff them into your gloves or pockets; they will warm you up fast between rounds. While you are playing, it is probably not a good idea to get around via golf cart. If you do not keep moving, your swing will get stiff and your game will suffer…so walk the course!
For the game, we highly suggest bringing some colored golf balls. There is nothing that will kill the mood like searching through the snow for your white golf ball. Golf balls can pose an entirely different problem as well: their temperature. Warm golf balls travel a lot farther than cold ones, so try to keep them warm in your hands or pockets until you are ready to use them.
You do not have to forgo your favorite pastime during winter. Whether you are playing in South Florida or on an icy, northern golf course, there are plenty of steps that you can take to make sure your game is on point year round!

How to Stay on Par with Your Golfing New Year’s Resolution
Roughly 90 percent of people do not stick to their New Year’s Resolution, so if you chose learning golf as yours, we have some tips on how to stay on par with your resolution.
Invest in golf: Purchasing proper golfing attire and equipment will help increase your chances of actually stepping foot onto a golf course. Making yourself feel comfortable and confident on the course is half the battle to actually learning how to play well.
Practice putting: By starting simple, you can learn the basic techniques of golf, and when it comes down to that last small putt at the 18th hole, you can be sure that it will not take you five tries to make it in.
Find your technique: Find what moves work for you and what types of clubs are best for your swing and drive. Off the course, pick up your clubs at home and practice your swings. If you typically go to the gym every day, trade it out for an hour visit to the local golf course instead; you will be surprised at the amount of exercise that you can get from your beginner swings and chasing after golf balls.
Hire a Pro: Hiring a professional golf tutor will make it so that you do not slack on keeping your New Year’s resolution.
The more time and money that you invest in golf, the more likely you will be able to master your New Year’s resolution, and the more that those 100 golf balls you lost in the course’s lakes will be golf balls not missed.

Picking the Perfect Golf Clubs
Buying a set of golf clubs is not as simple as it may seem. There is a lot more that goes into it than a person might think. There are different types for different uses, there are different shaft flexes, there is a large price range, there are shafts that are made of different materials, different grips, and many people have their clubs tailored.
The first thing to determine when buying golf clubs is which type is right for you. There are three types, player’s irons, game-improvement irons, and super game-improvement irons. Player’s irons are for people that have the highest ability level. Game-improvement irons are fore people in the middle range of abilities. And then the super-game improvement irons are for the people that have the lowest ability level.
Then there is the shaft flex. The shaft flex is the amount of bend in the club. It ranges from “senior” which is the most flexible, to extra stiff. It is recommended that the faster your swing speed the stiffer your shaft. Having a slow swing and a stiff shaft is a bad combination, and vice versa.
And then there are the different grip materials that play a part, and the different club materials, a very large price range, and the overall feel of the whole shabang. The only thing that can really determine if clubs are right for you is getting out there and testing them on a range. Without actually physically using them, you will never know which kind of shaft is right for you.
For more guidance on buying the right golf clubs, head to our golf pro shop and speak with a professional who can help with a golf club fitting.
