Hitting the Golf Course: You’ve Gotta Dress the Part!

Hitting the Golf Course: You’ve Gotta Dress the Part!

When it comes to the game of golf, one thing that has been consistent over time is that the golf course has a certain dress code as part of the game’s etiquette that players need to adhere by. While you don’t need a full golf uniform, there are some elements of your wardrobe that should adhere to the tradition of the game.

In general, a collared shirt and Dockers-style shorts or slacks will get you onto most golf courses (additionally, golf skirts or skorts for women). Many lower-priced courses also permit denim shorts or blue jeans. For comfort and practicality, a dri-fit style that wicks sweat away is a smart choice for golf courses, especially in the summer, especially in Florida!

Most upscale courses require collared shirts and have a no-denim rule. A very small number of (mostly private luxury) courses even have no-shorts rules, requiring golf slacks.

Sneakers or running shoes are sometimes allowed on golf courses, but not always. Many courses now require “soft” spikes made of hard rubber or plastic, not traditional metal. Furthermore, other types of shoes that may appear to offer the same comfort and stability are not necessarily permitted. Sandals are a definite don’t.

Since the level of requirements varies from course to course, it is a smart decision to call ahead and find out what the specific dress code rules are at a golf course before you show up. However, in the worst case scenario you’ll have to buy something from the golf pro shop that is acceptable.

Picking the Perfect Golf Clubs

Picking the Perfect Golf Clubs

Buying a set of golf clubs is not as simple as it may seem. There is a lot more that goes into it than a person might think. There are different types for different uses, there are different shaft flexes, there is a large price range, there are shafts that are made of different materials, different grips, and many people have their clubs tailored.

The first thing to determine when buying golf clubs is which type is right for you. There are three types, player’s irons, game-improvement irons, and super game-improvement irons. Player’s irons are for people that have the highest ability level. Game-improvement irons are fore people in the middle range of abilities. And then the super-game improvement irons are for the people that have the lowest ability level.

Then there is the shaft flex. The shaft flex is the amount of bend in the club. It ranges from “senior” which is the most flexible, to extra stiff. It is recommended that the faster your swing speed the stiffer your shaft. Having a slow swing and a stiff shaft is a bad combination, and vice versa.

And then there are the different grip materials that play a part, and the different club materials, a very large price range, and the overall feel of the whole shabang. The only thing that can really determine if clubs are right for you is getting out there and testing them on a range. Without actually physically using them, you will never know which kind of shaft is right for you.

How to Pick the Right Pair of Golf Shoes

How to Pick the Right Pair of Golf Shoes

Picking out the right pair of golf shoes is more than just a fashion statement. The right pair of golf shoes can have a positive impact on your game. When you are on the greens, you are spending hours on your feet—it is important that you are comfortable. Before you hit up a South Florida golf pro shop to buy a pair of shoes, have an idea of what you are looking for in a pair.

The fit is immensely important. When you try new golf shoes, wear the kind of socks that you intend to wear with your shoes. Test your shoes by standing on one foot at a time. Wiggle your toes and stand on your tiptoes. Shoes should bend at the same place where your foot bends. Be sure that you have one-half inch of space from the end of your big toe to the tip of the shoe.

Depending on the conditions you play in, you may want to consider a waterproof shoe. Waterproof shoes are more expensive, but they are much more comfortable in wet conditions. Leather uppers are the best for providing support and waterproofing. Shoes made of synthetic leather are less expensive but do not breathe as well nor do they offer as much waterproof protection.

Last, but not least, choose the style of shoe you feel most comfortable wearing. Golf shoes come in more options today than ever before and you should wear a pair that expresses your personal style and is also highly functional.

Protect Your Skin on the Golf Course

Protect Your Skin on the Golf Course

South Florida is known for beautiful sunny weather, but we all know the sun has the ability to do harm as well. When you come to Deer Creek Golf Club and play a round of golf with friends or family, be sure you have adequate protection from the strong South Florida UV rays. Here are our must-haves for a safe day of golf out in the sun:

Sunscreen. Use an SPF 30 or higher and remember to reapply throughout the round. Put your first application on about 30 minutes before starting, and reapply sunscreen every 2 hours. This will help protect your skin. Remember that you need SPF even if it is cloudy!

Sunglasses. Gazing down the fairway can be difficult without polarized lenses, and it can also be detrimental to your eyes. Protect your vision and follow your drive by wearing a pair of sunglasses out on the course.

Hat. Male or female, young or old, a hat can provide a great deal of sun protection to your entire face and to the top of your head. Many people do not think about their scalp getting a sunburn, but it happens all the time and it can be quite uncomfortable. Wear a hat on the course and you’ll give your head and your face some extra protection.

Show up to the course and forget one of these items? Do not worry! Stop by our South Florida golf pro shop and pick up the items you need to have a safe and fun day on our golf course.
