The moment you have been waiting for has arrived; your significant other has proposed! Now it is time to get into wedding planning mode and begin making arrangements. After you have tackled the venue, the perfect floral centerpieces, and the guest list, it is time for wedding dress shopping! But before you head over to your favorite bridal boutique or bridal shop, here are some helpful dos and don’ts of wedding dress shopping according to the event planners at our South Florida wedding venue.
How to Shop for a Wedding Dress
Finding the right wedding dress takes time; trying on wedding dresses is only half the fun. We have hosted our fair share of weddings here at Deer Creek Golf Club and have seen some wedding dress disasters unfold. To ensure you have the bridal gown of your dreams, here are a few wedding dress shopping tips.
DO Bring People You Trust to Watch You Try on Wedding Dresses
When you’re wedding dress shopping, be sure you have a supportive entourage that you trust. As a bride, you will not only want honest opinions about the different wedding dress styles you try on but people who will support you no matter what dress you choose, even if it wasn’t their first choice. Surround yourself with people that will bring you back to Earth in honest and supportive ways.
DON’T Try on Wedding Dresses in the Middle of the Afternoon
If you know you will be shopping for a wedding dress with a big crowd, book the bridal salon’s first appointment of the day. This gives you the opportunity to complete your wedding dress shopping before the salon gets too busy. You will not feel overwhelmed and will most likely be able to try on more wedding gowns.
DO Have an Idea of What a Dream Wedding Dress Looks Like
Save time running through countless dresses by going into the bridal shop with an idea of what you may be looking for. Are you searching for a lace wedding dress? Something blush or ivory? This will give your wedding dress consultant a general idea of which wedding dresses to pull and which ones to skip. You can peruse bridal magazines and try some of the latest wedding dress trends to start helping you visualize your dream gown.
Not sure what wedding dress to wear on your big day? We recommend trying on at least one ball gown, one fit-and-flare gown, and an A-line wedding dress to start. This can give you a better idea of what style of wedding dress you feel great in to help you narrow down your selection.
DON’T Judge a Wedding Dress On a Hanger
When wedding dress shopping, don’t judge any wedding dress on its hanger. Oftentimes brides will overlook a beautiful gown because of the way it looks simply hanging. While it may not feel right at first glance, trust your bridal consultant and give it a shot; the bridal consultant will know that a gown looks much better on a body compared to how it looks on the hanger. Who knows, this may just be the wedding dress of your dreams!
DO Add Accessories When Trying On a Wedding Dress
Accessories can change an entire look, so when you’re shopping for a wedding dress, bring accessories you will want to include in your wedding such as an heirloom that’s been passed down from generation to generation, like a veil or tiara. We also recommend bringing a wide range of different jewelry to get an idea of how it all looks together with the dress. You won’t regret it!
DON’T Be Afraid to Say No to a Wedding Dress
Keep in mind that you are shopping for YOUR dream wedding dress. Although your consultant at the bridal shop is the expert and your loved ones want you to look great on your wedding day, you are allowed to decline a dress. Don’t feel pressured to choose a dress your family and friends love if you don’t feel the same way about it. If you cannot picture yourself walking down the aisle in the wedding dress you’re trying on, then it may not be the gown for you. You will make your consultant’s job easier by being honest about what you want.

Ring, check, proposal plans, check, oh wait…global pandemic…check. Don’t let COVID-19 put a damper on your marriage proposal plans. Before the coronavirus lockdown restrictions took place, you probably had a grand plan for proposing to your partner. But just because you are stuck at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you can still propose during the quarantine. Our expert South Florida wedding planners at Deer Creek Golf Club, are here to share a few quarantine proposal ideas.
How to Propose at Home
You don’t need to plan a huge destination vacation or an elaborate plan for a marriage proposal. In fact, proposing at home is more intimate and personal than any other setting. If your quarantine proposal comes from the heart, that is all that truly matters. You can still be romantic at home! If you are proposing during quarantine, check out these ideas.
- Picnic
One of the sweetest quarantine proposal ideas is a picnic. You can find a quiet park near your home or go to your front or backyard for a sweet picnic with your loved one. Pack your favorite food, a cozy blanket, flower petals, and of course, champagne to celebrate you popping the question.
- Game night
If you are looking for a sneaky but cute idea if you are proposing during quarantine, then definitely host a game night. Keep the invite list very small and make sure you are socially distancing. You can write “will you marry me?” on a card if you are playing a card game, or you can add hints of wedding themes in any board game you choose. Your significant other is sure to say yes as your loved ones surround you.
- Movie night
Another creative marriage proposal involves a movie night starring you and your partner. You can compile videos and photos of the two of you that can play right before you pop the question. Cuddle up with your loved one, add cozy blankets and pillows, and you can even add candles to make the room feel more romantic. No movie date will ever compare to this evening!
- Room makeover
While traveling is limited now due to the coronavirus, you can give your partner a room makeover. Choose a place your partner dreams of visiting, whether it’s Paris or the Bahamas, or anywhere in the world, and recreate the scenery in your home. From décor to food, make the area look as if your travel plans are still on, get down on one knee, and propose to your partner.
- Over a meal
A simple yet romantic way to propose at home is over a meal. You can either cook or order in your partner’s favorite cuisine/restaurant and reminisce over the sweet smell of the food. Whip up an Italian dish with a bottle of wine, make your own burritos with margaritas, or barbecue chimichurri chicken with a classic potato dish with a signature cocktail. Wine and dine with your partner as you cherish your memories before you enter the next chapter of your lives.
Now that you are more familiar with a few quarantine proposal ideas, you are on your way to popping the question. Keep in mind our wedding venue in South Florida to celebrate your love. We also host bridal showers and other special events. Let our family assist with your upcoming nuptials. Contact us today at 954-429-0006 to speak to one of our special event directors. There’s nothing more rewarding than a successful event.
This is especially true when applied to corporate events; businesses are grown, customers are satisfied, and relationships are forged. In addition to providing businesses and customers with a pleasant time to build relationships with each other, corporate events are also a great way to gain more business.
Deer Creek, South Florida country club, has some advice to make your next corporate event one for the books.
Determine Your Audience
To attract viable business for your company, tailor your event to your crowd. Figure out what kinds of clients would be most likely to attend an event for your service. An event at one of the golf clubs in Florida, like Deer Creek, would appeal more to golfers and would be perfect for a company selling golf merchandise. With this, you can craft your party, gala, or gathering with a specific audience in mind.
Choose the Day & the Time
Whether your event is at one of the golf clubs in Florida or at a local coffee shop, schedule your event on the slow hour of a slow day. This way, you will be gaining more business during that time, while not detracting from the business procured on busier days and hours.
With this, you should also keep your audience in mind. If you’re hosting a corporate event for your boating company at a South Florida country club, figure out a day and time in which more boaters would be more likely to come. For instance, a Saturday morning may not be a great choice, since your clients may be out sailing.
Provide Contact Information & Follow-Up
Make sure that you don’t leave your guests hanging. Establish some form of contact and exchanging of information, so that either parties can follow-up in the future. Otherwise, the event would have been a waste for your business.
While there’s much more to hosting an effective corporate event, at Deer Creek Golf Club, we hope that these tips and hints help you craft an event that will profit not only your business but your customers, as well.

The film Seven Brides for Seven Brothers put it best: “They say when you marry in June you’re a bride all your life.”
Whether or not that’s true, the craze for June weddings has continued to turn even the most peaceful brides into bridezillas since the beginning of the wedding industry. Dating back to medieval times, June is the most desirable wedding time for many reasons which have changed during the years. At first it was desired for its connections to both ancient traditions and the harvest times.
Now, couples fight for their June wedding due to its longer daylight hours and better weather conditions. It’s also a much easier time for family and friends to travel if needed.
For these reasons, it can be extremely difficult to book that June wedding at your dream venue within a reasonable time frame. Deer Creek South Florida golf club has a few pieces of advice on how to get that June wedding without waiting for years.
Stay Away from the Holiday
When choosing your wedding date in June, don’t even consider holiday weekends. Not only are they more expensive for the wedding couple and those attending, but they’re more difficult to book, as well. Of course, a three-day weekend may seem like the perfect time to schedule your dream wedding, but you’ll probably waiting a few years for that dream to come true.
Move on to the Off-Season
Your best bet for booking your breezy June wedding is to consider the off-season. If you’re interested in a destination wedding in the tropics or the mountains, summertime is a much less popular time to schedule a date.
Dabble in Discounted Days
Even in June, many wedding venues offer discounted prices for Fridays and Sundays. Additionally, other weekdays are priced even lower than this. It’s not that ideal Saturday evening June wedding, filled with the glow of a golden sunset and the cool night air; it’s still in June, though, and weekday nights are just as beautiful.
Toy Around with the Time
If you are dead-set on a Saturday June wedding, consider holding it during the day. You will be more likely to book a venue for the day than for the night. Brunch weddings are trending now, as well, since the couple can serve varieties of festive, delicious breakfast and lunch favorites. Maybe waffles aren’t as romantic and sophisticated as a filet, but what about an artisanal-decorated French crepe cake?
Bring Your Backups
The most sure-fire way to ensure that you land that June wedding is to consider multiple dates at multiple venues. Be flexible and plan in advance. According to a survey by The Knot, couples wait an average of 14 months before their wedding day. This way, if you one date falls through, you’ll have another to pull out for your June wedding.
If you need more help or would like a romantic and unique wedding venue, Deer Creek can help. Our club offers a variety of dates for a spectacular and memorable June wedding. Contact us today to book your perfect day at our venue.

Guys Guide to Choosing an Engagement Ring & Getting a Size
Most men are at least a little nervous choosing an engagement ring, it’s only natural. Engagement rings are like tattoos, a bad one will haunt you forever and could ruin a relationship. With that in mind, we decided to provide some insight into buying an engagement ring. A short online course: Buying an Engagement Ring 101.
We are going to address the three most common questions men ask when shopping for an engagement ring.
- Should I go engagement ring shopping with my girlfriend?
- How can I guess my girlfriend’s ring size without asking her?
- How do I pick the right engagement ring style?
Engagement rings represent a commitment; it’s about thinking long-term. The best ring is one that she will love, will age well and won’t break the bank. Money is a key factor when choosing an engagement ring, but it shouldn’t be the only focus. After all, you are going to have to spend money on the bridal shower venue, and of course, the wedding venue.
Shopping for An Engagement Ring with Your Girlfriend
Best-Case Scenario – Browse with her, online or in person, but go out and pick it yourself. You still want to surprise her with your choice, and the style you picked. Put some time between when you shop and when you propose, at least 3 months.
Worst-Case Scenario – Ask the store’s return or exchange policy.
Do your best to maintain some element of surprise and choice because you want to give her a story to tell at the engagement party.
How to Guess Your Girlfriend’s Ring Size Without Asking Her
Oh boy, here we go. This is one of the most daunting tasks you have ahead of you, or at least it seems that way. There were probably guys back in the early 1900’s sweating this same problem of choosing an engagement ring, maybe even all the way back to the caveman days. “How find ring size without ask?” That’s exactly how they spoke too, trust us.
REMEMBER: It doesn’t have to be a perfect fit, she won’t mind getting it resized, just try get it close.
Here are 4 sneaky ways to get your girlfriends ring size without asking:
- Half a size smaller than your shoe sizes.
Find out her shoe size and subtract a half. So, if she is an 8, her ring size is a 7.5. Easy right? This is only an average, so this does not work for all women. But this should be your first option if you really want to surprise her.
- Go into Her Jewelry
Put on your detective hat and look at her jewelry box for other rings. Don’t take any rings if you can help it, instead place the ring on one of your fingers and make a note of how far it goes up your finger.
- Check Her Gloves
This works for our fellow men in the colder parts of the world. Check her glove size and use that as a reference.
- Deploy the Informants – Family & Friends
Ask family and friends to get that information for you. You want to entrust this to someone subtle and someone who won’t spill the beans. Only an option if you have a good informant.
Choosing an Engagement Ring Style
Ask any guy who has bought an engagement ring and they will probably tell you all about the Four Cs. It’s a term that has existed for years to help struggling gentlemen choose an engagement ring that will impress their lady.
These 4 factors are used to determine the grade of the diamond, used by jewelers every day. So, you know you can trust it. We have listed the 4 Cs in order of importance. Take a look at this diagram that explains the Four Cs of diamonds.
The cut of the diamond is directly responsible for the sparkle, and sparkle matters; sparkle is king, sparkle is what you’re looking for here. The cut refers to the angles and hard edges and how they line up to each other and to the rest of the diamond. It has nothing to do with size or shape. This is a great diagram to understand diamond cut.
Traditionally, the less color the better. Most people try to buy diamonds that are as transparent as possible. But this is related to preference and not quality. Some diamonds have a “yellowish” color embedded within them. Yellow does not mean inherently less quality, but it might mean less “perceived quality” because most people think that clear diamonds are more beautiful. It’s completely up to you.
Carat is a middle English word from French that was used a unit of weight. It really isn’t a measure we use anymore except referring to the weight of an engagement ring diamond. The higher the carat the bigger the diamond. That is important to some but not to others.
This refers to the tiny imperfections in the diamond. Though most are not even noticeable to the naked eye. This is the least important factor to consider when choosing an engagement ring.
