It’s about that time! Everyone is out there making New Year’s resolutions and telling friends, family and co-workers; announcing it on Facebook and making promises to cut back or start something new. An article in in US News says that a whopping 80% of people fail to reach their New Year’s resolution each year. Not us golfers, no sir. Golf goals and resolutions will be different this year, and Deer Creek Golf Club will make sure of that. These 2017 New Year’s resolutions for golfers will be different and here’s how:
1.Set Smaller Goals
So many people fail because the goals they set are unrealistic. Be sure to set golf goals and resolutions that you can actually achieve and start very small. Reaching a small golf resolution is infinitely better than failing a larger one.
Here are some examples of easy New Year’s resolutions for golfers: take a few golf lessons, spend more time practicing short game, count every shot on every game. If you want something bigger, try plan a holiday golf trip.
2. Stay Focused
The only thing between you and achieving these golf goals and resolutions is yourself. Hold yourself accountable; if you cheat, you are only cheating yourself!
3. Don’t Tell Anyone
Studies have shown that the brain experiences a similar, pleasurable feeling when we talk about accomplishing something, as it does when we accomplish it. Which means that you feel the rewards for doing it even though all you are doing is talking about it.
Keep your golf goals and resolutions to yourself and you will save that feeling of accomplishment for when you actually reach your goal.
4. Reward Yourself
Promise yourself a reward when you have reached the goal. Maybe a new golf club, a nice bag, or a trip to a nice South Florida golf course to test your new skills.
